Forward thinking when it comes to your body can help you keep on top of things and nip any potential nasties in the bud...

Are you a forward thinker when it comes to your body?
Let’s face it, most of us aren’t, but I really have to applaud clients who are. I had a lady book in this week who was in this exact position. She is a runner who, over her past few years of running has had injuries on and off, but at present has none. She thought now would be a great time to have a check in on her body biomechanics. An MOT for the body.
This is something we offer at Move Well to help keep you on top of things, nip any potential nasties that may be brewing in the bud before pain has a chance to show itself.
When you are not in pain it gives us the prime opportunity to ask your body for more, to raise the bar for your new normal by nudging your comfort zone. After all, the stretch zone on the edge of your comfort zone is where the magic happens.
Pain can take many shapes and forms.
Pain is a funny old thing, it can often take time coming on – starting as an intermittent niggle, then a sharper more persistent pain to a full on ‘I’m here and I mean business’ pain.
It’s at what point do we decide to stop and listen, take action to what it is trying to tell us. I like to think of pain as your body’s voice trying to tell you to make a change to something you are doing or not doing to your body.
I chose a long time ago to ‘flip’ how I view pain and what it means to me in myself and when working with clients. I used to see it as a scary thing to get away from as fast as possible, normally waiting until I couldn’t ignore it anymore.
Now I see it as a way in which the body is giving me feedback to something that needs to be changed. It’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s just feedback. By taking the fear out of pain, this allows you to ask better questions of your body about what might be going on for you to be feeling this feedback.
Getting rid of fear gets rid of the ‘flight, fight, freeze’ hormones of stress that will be racing round your body when fear is present.
Back to the MOT!
A Move Well Body Biomechanics MOT gives you a chance to feel what your body can do well and not so well. It allows you to feel in your body what might be compensating for something else but has not yet reached the point of pain (this is often something you may be totally unaware of previously).
It gives you back control over what you can expect your body to do. It integrates moves back into the system, which help give power back to your muscles and movement back to your joints, which you may not have even realised could or should move in that way.
It’s a chance to upgrade the results you are getting in sport, work and life. It is a fantastic chance to know more about you. By raising your awareness of your normal you will know when you have downgraded from that normal and what you need to raise you back up.
Making you not just functional but next level supercharged!
